What Are Contact Lenses?

Contact lenses are small curved disks worn on the surface of the eye to address vision impairments, like nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and age-related vision farsightedness (presbyopia). For many adults and teens, contact lenses offer are the easiest way to achieve their best vision. At Bentz Eye Care, we're pleased to offer contact lenses to West Palm Beach, FL patients for various eye needs, including daily wear, disposable, bifocal, and astigmatism. Utilizing the latest in vision care, our eye center features an onsite optical shop to help make meeting the vision needs of our patients even more convenient. We keep an excellent stock of the most common types of contact lenses so patients can often take them home on the same day as their contact lens fitting. To explore your options for contact lenses, please contact our team today to schedule a consultation.

Are Contact Lenses Right for Me?

Contact lenses may be an ideal choice for vision correction for teens and adults, people who play sports or lead active lifestyles, and those who prefer not to wear glasses. Contacts may also be appropriate for older children in some instances. This option does require extra care and attention, however. Patients who aren't committed to caring for them properly or who have certain types of eye conditions may not be good candidates for contact lenses.

During your vision exam and consultation at Bentz Eye Center, our team can review your options for vision correction and help you decide if contacts are right for you. Our eye doctors may request that you attend a follow-up visit in about six weeks to assess your contact lens fit. It's important to note that follow-up visits cannot serve as a complete eye exam because they do not assess your internal or external eye structures.

Contact Lenses FAQ

What are the benefits of contact lenses?

Many patients choose contact lenses for the ease and convenience they provide. There is also no fogging or steaming of contact lenses, in most cases, and they can allow for eye color changes if preferred.

Does insurance cover contact lenses?

If you have vision insurance, a portion of the cost of your contact lenses may be covered under your plan. Our office staff at Bentz Eye Center can help you review your policy and benefits and let you know of any anticipated out-of-pocket cost for your contact lenses.

Can you wear contacts every day?

Unless you're experiencing a temporary eye issue preventing you from wearing your contact lenses, like redness, irritation, or an eye infection, wearing contact lenses daily is generally fine. Remember to always practice proper cleaning and care for your contacts.

How long can you wear contact lenses?

  • Daily Wear Contacts - need to be removed before bedtime, so the average wear time is about 16 hours.
  • Extended Wear Contacts - can be worn overnight and are typically worn up to seven days at a time.
