Dr. Robert Bentz attended the University of Notre Dame and The Ohio State University for his undergraduate education. He obtained his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1978. His internship and ophthalmology residency were at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and Detroit Osteopathic Hospital in Detroit, Michigan while completing his basic science in ophthalmology at Standford University. He completed a fellowship with neuro-ophthalmologist Dr. John Costin in Cleveland, Ohio. He was board certified in ophthalmology in 1986.
Always dedicated to staying on the leading edge of ophthalmology, Dr. Bentz has had a long professional history in Palm Beach County serving patients’ needs for medical eye care including: cataracts, retina, glaucoma, and oculoplastic. Since 1982, Dr. Bentz has successfully performed more than 20,000 micro-surgical procedures and was among the first surgeons in Palm Beach County to offer LASIK. He utilizes the most current techniques and technology to achieve the best possible outcomes for his patients, and he offers a high level of post-operative care. The most recent advancement in ophthalmology involves use of the femtosecond laser. Dr. Bentz has been using the femtosecond laser for All-Laser LASIK procedures since 2011 and is excited to offer this technology for safer, more precise cataract procedures.
A regular participant in mission work, Dr. Bentz has traveled to many third-world countries performing all aspects of eye surgery including cataract surgery, strabismus surgery, and corneal transplants. He continues to keep current in all aspects of ophthalmology and has been an associate professor at Nova Southeastern University Medical School in the Department of Surgery, Division of Ophthalmology since 1985. He participates in the training of ophthalmology residents, allowing them to rotate through his private practice. He operates at Northpoint Surgery Center and The Laser and Surgery Center of the Palm Beaches.
Dr. Bentz is currently a fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO), a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), the Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO), and the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA).
He is the proud father of three daughters. He lives with his wife, Lisa, and his dog, Kiya, in Jupiter. He likes to race cars in his spare time and pilot his private plane.
